Interview with:

Meet the Novi Sad's greatest rock attraction...GARAGE FUCKIN'

OK, Did you have many interviews lately?

Hmm, none!
Can I ask you anything I want?

Yeah, go ahead freely.

Tell us something about your beginnings, history...
It was 1991. line up was: Malden, Goran (now in UMT and DMT) and me. Then Mladen switched to bass, we were 13 at the time. That was the time when we got it all serious and we did our first serious gigs (with Obojeni Program). There was this guy Boki, he was in Korozija for a very long time (but he's not anymore). We played as a cover band with Zlatko GBB (we had different name for every gig) Tim Darling boy, Dux De Luxe and the T shirts... After Ivan (the drummer) left the band we have troubles with drumming. Fedja used to play for a while, but he was also in Pure Impact and Vrisak Generacije and Blitzkrieg at that time. He's drumming in this studio session we are doing these days.

Now, we must hear from you: How do you call your music? Is it punk is it just plain R'n'r?
For us it's just R'n'r. Some say it's punkrock...I can't tell. Influenced by Motorhead, Ramones...that's common for all of us but each one has his own favourites. I like Mc5, The Damned. Joja likes that 60's stuff...

How many songs did you write so far?
We have 13-14 of good ones, for a decent LP. We have also a lot of recently written songs but we haven't practised 'em yet. All in all, 10 new songs.

  Recordings so far?

Well, we have that good demo (1996.)  with 6 songs but 3 of them finalized and remixed ("Diabolic Man", "Dr. Riff" and "Shake your blood"). Write now we are in studio recording two new songs. It will be some sort of promo...I don't know yet...

Who's doing the song writing. How did you split the job?

We're doing it together. But not really together...I mean lyrics are mainly mine. But we do it like this: I (or Mladen) write the lyrics and on rehearsal we are together trying to build a song out of it. Everyone of has puts some of his mind into every song. It was never clearly divided, like Lyrics: me and Music: Mladen....You can see who did what somehow, when the song is done.

You used to have lyrics in Serbian...

Now, all the lyrics are in English. We only kept two songs in Serbian cause they're really good but eventually we'll translate "Dr. Riff" in English. "Diabolic Man" remains in Serbian.

   Also, you do some covers...

Yes, we are and there will be even more. Last time ,live, we did "Baby Jane", "Jumping Jack Flash",  "No Feelings". We also performed as a cover band with Zlatko (from Stones to Damned via 60's stuff).
How do you cope with practising place?
Oh, nowdays it really sucks. We use to share place with other bands...you know, we have amps they have drums...Now, we don't  have good relations with any of those bands. For some silly reasons... Now, it's a trouble but every thing's gonna be alright.
You know, we are friend with Provokacija, Blitzkrieg, UMT...Who ever asked us for help, he got it. But, this is not very big city and there are always rumours when your backs are turned. We are no angels too...I'm not immune to that too.

Who are you gonna send those upcoming promos to?
Well, apparently there is a guy from Detroit interested, and some guys from Australia and some folks from Holland too...They are some Serbian guys living there, except for that Detroit guy. Mladen gave them our live recording and they liked it. There should be some single out there soon.

Will you change your name from Korozija to Corrosion?
I would do that! We are not that famous and changing name wouldn't harm us at all.

Did you play outside Novi Sad?
We did Kragujevac, Smederevska Palanka, Zrenjanin, Kikinda, Sombor...It was mainly Vojvodina. Crowd was pleased! We opened for GBB, Ritam nereda, Love Hunters, Goblini, Dzukele...

  Your fave gig?
I can't really remember, but I would say it was a gig in Masinac in 1998. With Martians, and Pesacki Prelaz. No, I'm bullshitting: The best one was in Dom Mladih club with UMT and DMT. It was hell of a lot of crowd and we set amps to 10! I remember the earplugs fell out of my ears and I was semi-deaf for the next 3 days. Sound engineers asked me: "What do you want to be heard best -"Marshall" amps or the whole band?" I said "Marshalls!".
