Q: You were very young when you start playing, tell us something about your
beginnings.
A: We began in late '93, playing covers by Forgotten Rebels, Lost Lyrics, Agent Orange,
Exploited, etc. Soon we started writing our own stuff and released two tapes "Sweet
Fury" (in 95) and "Lost Cause" (in 96) on our own label Sweet Fury Records.
They'll be released soon on a CD called "The Punks Are All right" on Nasty Vinyl
from Germany.
Q: Do you have
any troubles at school ,cause of your mohawk?
A: No, I didn't have any trouble teaching in school because of my mohawk, because I used
to wear a baseball cap to school. But everyone there knew I was in a punk band.
Q: Tell us something about punk scene in São Paulo. Your fave São Paulo bands.
A: I won't limit myself to São Paulo bands, cause there are great bands in other
brazilian states too. My favorites are : Dead Fish, a melodic Epitaph style punk
band who sings in English and Portuguese. Their debut CD is out now, Mukeka Di Rato,
a mid-80's style hardcore punk band that's pretty raw. Their debut CD is also out. Ack
is another melodic punk band. They're from Rio de Janeiro. They got a couple of cool demos
out and are working on a CD. Muzzarellas is a fun punk band that sounds like The
Queers with a sore throat. They only sing in English. Their second CD should already be
out now. CPM is a local melodic hardcore punk band that has an old demo but are
looking for a label to release their debut CD. Holly Tree is a great band that
sounds like Rancid mixed with Green Day. Their CD is really cool. Gritando H.C. is
a street punk band from São Paulo whose debut CD is already out. They only sing in
Portuguese. And of course I can't forget to mention Colera, the best brazilian punk band
ever, which should be releasing their new CD anytime now. Contact addresses for these
bands are at the end of the interview.
Q: Do you know something about Yugoslavian scene, or at least about Yugoslavia ?
A: Yes, I love Kud Idijoti!! Their "Bolivia R'n'R" LP os absolutely
great! I also have three more of their records. They fuckin' rule!!!
About Yugoslavia , I know about the war that's going on. Really sad, like all wars are.
Q: Does Grita! supports you enough?
A: Grita! is a cool label, they helped us a lot.
Q: Do you have any videos? (Would you like to see them on MTV?)
A: We don't have any videos yet. But we plan on making two. One for "Conforismo e
Resistencia" (from the São Paulo Chaos CD) and one for "Revolution Rock"
(from the "Skaliente" comp on Grita!). Gordo, our guitar player, will probably
direct them. Nothing against being on MTV Brasil, they're pretty cool. I don't know about
the american/european MTV, but the brazilian one actually helps a lot of new punk bands.
Q: Do you (Blind Pigs) have any other jobs except playing in the band?
A:Yes of course, we all have jobs. I'm an English teacher, Gordo works in film production,
our other guitar player Pablo works in a music instrument shop and Arnaldo, the drummer
works in a meat factory. As you can see, the line up has changed since we released
"São Paulo Chaos", and we're currently looking for a new bass player.
A:Yeah, I'd like to tell you a joke: buy our album , it's good, you'll
like it.
Q: Your message to your Yugoslav audience.
A: Stay in school, drink beer and listen to a lot of punk rock. We hope to visit you
on an European tour. If you've got an Yugoslav punk rock band, send us a tape, we'd love
to listen to it. You can contact us at:
